Sound and a Story: Broken Social Scene

With anywhere from a half to a full dozen members at a given time, Canadian baroque rock stars Broken Social Scene are more a flux collective than anything. Leslie Feist, whose solo career recently blossomed with her haunting vocals and poppy sound, is an original contributor to BSS.  Earlier this year, in partnership with publisher House of Anansi, the band created the Broken Social Scene Short Story Contest.  It called for short stories inspired by the titles of every track from You Forgot It In People, their second album released a decade ago. About four hundred fiction submissions came through for thirteen songs, and winners were published in a commemoration of the album’s release ten years later.
